Because your clear aligners are so discreet and comfortable, you can feel confident while wearing them; you won’t feel embarrassed during treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Keeping your Invisalign® aligners clean is essential to maintaining oral health and preventing your trays from becoming cloudy or developing odors. Proper cleaning also helps your aligners stay clear and virtually invisible throughout your treatment.

What Is the Best Way to Clean My Aligners?

To keep your Invisalign aligners fresh and clear, follow these simple steps:

  • Use lukewarm water to rinse your aligners every time you remove them to prevent plaque buildup. Avoid hot water, as it can warp the plastic.
  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and clear, unscented antibacterial soap to gently brush your aligners. Toothpaste can be too abrasive and cause scratches.
  • Soak your aligners daily in Invisalign cleaning crystals or a denture cleaner to remove bacteria and prevent staining. Follow the package instructions for the appropriate soaking time.
  • Brush and floss your teeth before putting your aligners back in to prevent trapping food and bacteria.

What Should I Avoid?

  • Do not use hot water, as it can warp the aligners.
  • Avoid colored or scented soaps, which may stain your trays or leave an unpleasant taste.
  • Skip harsh chemicals like bleach or alcohol-based cleaners, as they can damage the aligners.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign is an orthodontic system designed to straighten your teeth without the bulky brackets and wires associated with traditional braces.

Here’s how the system works:

  1. We’ll take 3-D scans of your teeth and send them to the Invisalign lab, where they will create your custom clear aligners.
  2. You’ll wear your clear aligners for about 22 hours each day, removing them only to brush and floss your teeth and eat.
  3. Every two weeks or so, you’ll switch to the next set of aligners. Each new set will shift your teeth closer to the desired position.
  4. You’ll visit our dental office periodically so we can monitor your progress.
  5. Once your treatment is complete, you’ll wear a retainer to keep your teeth from shifting back to their original position.

Invisalign® Clear Aligners Technology

Panoramic X-Rays

Instead of relying on an x-ray film placed inside your mouth, a panoramic x-ray rotates around your head. It projects a beam through your mouth to capture a detailed image, including your upper and lower jaws, teeth, nasal area and sinuses, and temporomandibular joints (TMJ).

We use panoramic x-rays to plan treatment for clear aligners, dental implants, and extractions, as well as to monitor tooth decay and gum disease. They’re a fast and safe diagnostic tool in our dental office.
